Overview
Are you an experienced NGS Scientist with strong hands-on expertise in sequencing and assay development? Ready to design and execute complex experiments that will shape the next generation of precision diagnostics? If this sounds like you and you are driven by purpose, join the SOPHiA GENETICS R&D team as our NGS Scientist, and help improve outcomes for cancer and rare disease patients worldwide.
The role typically requires on-site presence in Rolle, CH, 3-5 days per week. Please live within commutable distance to our facility.
Mission
We believe there is a smarter, more data-driven way to make decisions in healthcare. Our cloud-native AI-powered SOPHiA DDM Platform makes that vision a reality daily. You will contribute to democratizing data-driven medicine for cancer and rare disease patients globally. Our products are used by thousands of healthcare institutions and provide leading capabilities for genomic, clinical, and imaging data analysis.
Your Mission
As our NGS Scientist, you will drive the design, execution, and optimization of NGS experiments underpinning regulated and research projects. You will translate high-level project goals into robust laboratory plans, spanning assay setup, protocol refinement, and troubleshooting across different sample types and sequencing technologies.
You will collaborate closely with technicians to scale and execute studies, and with bioinformaticians to ensure that experimental design and data analysis are tightly aligned. You will be responsible for interpreting results, proposing data-driven improvements to data generation workflows, and clearly communicating findings to internal and external stakeholders. Your contributions will be central to delivering high-quality and clinically relevant NGS solutions.
Responsibilities
* Design, plan and execute NGS experiments, from sample preparation to sequencing, in alignment with project goals and timelines.
* Optimize and troubleshoot NGS assay workflows, including selection and fine-tuning of protocols, reagents and enzymes.
* Interpret project and regulatory requirements (e.g., IVDR, design control) to define robust experimental designs.
* Collaborate with a team of data analysts to design and execute experiments that address key questions about genetic targets and disease pathways.
* Evaluate protocols and data from NGS experiments using different technologies.
* Analyze and synthesize results into clear, well-structured reports and presentations for internal and cross-functional stakeholders; present project progress and scientific findings confidently.
Requirements
We know every background is different, but to be best set for success we see you bringing:
* PhD in a relevant life science discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology or related field).
* 2–5 years of proven, hands-on experience with NGS-based assays in an industrial, academic, or clinical setting (this experience may be partly gained during the PhD).
* Solid technical understanding in molecular biology techniques relevant to NGS (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, targeted enrichment, PCR).
* Strong skills in NGS technologies and data analysis workflow, and ability to interact effectively with bioinformaticians and other cross-functional stakeholders.
* Assay development and optimization (including experimental design, troubleshooting, and workflow improvement) alongside experience working under design control or within regulated environments (e.g., IVD/IVDR, FDA submissions, CDx) is highly valuable.
Benefits
You will be joining an organization with the patient at the heart of every decision and action, driven by purpose as we pursue exponential growth. Our benefits package is comprehensive but varies internationally in line with local standards and laws; discuss a full breakdown with us.
