Senior Linux Platform Engineer / SW & HW Expert
In this role, you will be a core contributor and consultant, ensuring the foundational operating system is robust, secure, and perfectly tailored to the demanding world of MedTech. The ideal candidate is comfortable across the entire Linux stack and has extensive experience building, modifying, or maintaining a customized Linux distribution, with a strong preference for Debian.
Tasks & Responsibilities
 * Architect and engineer our core OS platform by taking ownership of our custom Debian-based distribution, including kernel customization, driver integration, and the creation, maintenance, and optimization of Debian packages.
 * Master the build and release pipeline by evolving and improving the infrastructure and processes used to build, test, and release our Linux distribution, ensuring reliability and reproducibility.
 * Act as the ultimate escalation point by performing deep-dive troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis across both software and hardware for complex, low-level system issues.
 * Consult and empower development teams to best leverage the Roche Linux platform.
 * Proactively drive improvement by seeking opportunities to enhance our distribution, tools, and processes, focusing on system performance, security strengthening, and automation.
Must Haves
 * Deep, hands‑on Linux mastery (8+ years) across the entire Linux stack.
 * Proven experience in custom distribution engineering with a strong preference for Debian (e.g., debootstrap, molior, aptly).
 * Expertise in Debian packaging: ability to create, patch, and maintain .deb packages from scratch, understanding policy, dependencies, and best practices.
 * Strong scripting and automation skills with Python and Shell scripting.
 * Fundamental systems knowledge of operating system theory, software build systems, and the full testing and packaging lifecycle.
 * A systems thinker who sees the big picture and understands component interactions.
 * Driven by curiosity and a desire to understand why things work the way they do.
 * A pragmatic problem‑solver capable of working independently to find root causes.
 * A proactive contributor who identifies areas for improvement and takes initiative.
 * An excellent communicator who can articulate complex technical concepts to engineers and non‑technical stakeholders (Advanced English required).
Nice to Have
 * Proficiency in a systems programming language like C or C++.
 * Experience with embedded systems, ARM platform, hardware drivers, and low‑level integration.
 * Knowledge of modern infrastructure: virtualization (KVM), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
 * Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
