Senior Legal Counsel – Dispute Resolution (Shipping) On behalf of one of our clients, a leading global container shipping company, we are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join the Dispute Resolution team based in Geneva. In this role, you will play a key part in managing and resolving complex disputes across multiple jurisdictions, working closely with business stakeholders and legal teams worldwide. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee the company’s uninsured disputes globally, including out-of-court matters, litigation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Advise management and business units on day-to-day legal issues related to disputes and contentious matters. Develop and execute litigation and dispute resolution strategies, including legal research and the interpretation and application of relevant statutes, case law, and industry regulations. Instruct, coordinate, and oversee external counsel, and represent the company alongside them before governmental and regulatory authorities where required. Collaborate closely with other legal functions, including claims, compliance, M&A, competition, and contracts, to ensure alignment of dispute resolution strategies. Work with the company’s global agency network to identify, monitor, and mitigate potential and existing litigation risks, and to collect relevant information efficiently. Promote and implement best practices in dispute resolution, contributing to the development and review of internal policies, procedures, and governance frameworks. Manage assigned or delegated special projects in an efficient and commercially minded manner, in line with the company’s objectives. Candidate Profile Law degree from an accredited university and admission to practice law, with membership in good standing of a bar association (where applicable). 8 years’ post-qualification experience in dispute resolution, gained in a top-tier law firm, multinational company, or government agency. Strong and relevant experience in the shipping or maritime sector. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to deliver concise, business-oriented legal advice. Proactive team player, comfortable working under pressure and managing matters independently while keeping stakeholders informed. Prior in-house experience is welcomed but not mandatory. Fluent English (spoken and written) with strong legal drafting skills; proficiency in French and additional languages is an asset.
