The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche .

In Roche ́s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicine. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

The Therapeutic Modalities (TMo) function is part of the Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organization. TMo discovers and optimizes innovative drug candidates including small molecules, biologics and nucleic acid-based therapeutics in order to deliver novel therapeutic approaches across all pRED Discovery and Translational areas (DTAs).

This position is located in Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD), a group within Medicinal Chemistry research, where the computer-aided discovery of chemical starting points and further optimization towards clinical candidates is the primary focus. To ensure excellence in drug design, we push the scientific boundaries in key areas of CADD, implement new computational tools, distribute and train and advocate a digital mindset across the organization.

The Opportunity

We are offering a unique opportunity for a computational scientist to work with multidisciplinary teams of world-class scientists and build their track record as a computational drug hunter. This role is dedicated to driving preclinical small-molecule drug discovery projects from computational target assessment, virtual screening, lead identification, through lead optimization, together with our partners in adjacent departments.

Your impact:

-

Contributing to the advancement of drug discovery projects by integrating data from all available sources to generate actionable insights in the form of molecular designs, new experiments, and testable IP-relevant hypotheses.

-

Proactively seeking new opportunities for rational drug design across the portfolio and contributing to the assessment of new targets.

-

Ensuring and facilitating transparent decision-making within the team, guided by clear decision criteria and based on thorough data analysis.

-

Drive science and implementation of novel computational drug design techniques in trustworthy relationships and effective collaboration with internal and external partners.

Who you are

-

You have a PhD and 3-5 years of professional experience and track record in the field, which enables you to directly impact drug discovery projects with CADD input.

-

You are excited about driving drug discovery projects with CADD methods, knowledgeable in medicinal chemistry principles and the general drug development processes.

-

You have a deep understanding of all aspects of CADD (chemoinformatics, data mining, structure-based design, computational chemistry, etc.) and enjoy applying your data analysis, programming, and problem-solving skills to drug design challenges. You are fluent in Python and have demonstrated experience with modern Python machine learning frameworks.

-

You are fluent in English and have strong oral and written communication skills.

-

You thrive in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment, which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development.

-

You are resourceful and flexible in problem-solving and enjoy working collaboratively and inclusively. You are dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organisation to meet project and functional goals. You are able to identify your top deliverables, finalise projects to achieve results, whilst assuming personal responsibility for outcomes.

Unwavering focus, collaborative teamwork and exceptional delivery are key behaviours that drive our mission of doing now what patients need next. Together, we can be transformative.
