What You Will Do | Responsibilities


The AVP, Global Manufacturing Operations role is based in the Zug, Switzerland office and reports directly to the US-based Head of Technical Operations. The primary responsibility is to provide strategic and operational leadership for global supply chain activities, commercial manufacturing production, and overall functional planning. This leader will collaborate closely with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Commercial Operations, and other key functions. The ideal candidate will have significant operational experience ensuring reliable supply of quality products for global markets.


Experience in small molecule drug manufacturing, including knowledge of chemistry and pharmaceutical science, as well as understanding regulatory expectations, is desired. Since all manufacturing is outsourced, proven experience managing and improving external contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) is essential. The leader should be motivated, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, and work well in a team. This is a hands-on, "roll up your sleeves" role.



Key Responsibilities

* Manage CMO relationships, ensuring adherence to supply and quality agreements.
* Coordinate cGMP manufacturing, supply continuity, release, deviations, CAPAs, process changes, and change controls with cross-functional teams.
* Oversee business performance with external CMOs, including performance reviews, KPIs, and contract amendments.
* Guide, mentor, and develop the supply organization, ensuring the team has necessary skills and resources.
* Align CMO capabilities with business needs.
* Maintain strong communication and relationships with business partners.
* Supervise CMO processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
* Manage production schedules and monitor progress.
* Implement manufacturing strategies and tracking tools.
* Perform batch record reviews and approvals as needed.
* Plan and monitor forecasts for drug substances.
* Manage budgets, purchase orders, and invoices.
* Implement governance structures internally and with CMOs.
* Lead internal teams across US and EMEA, ensuring clarity on priorities and resources.
* Identify risks and opportunities for process improvements.
* Visit CMO sites regularly to build strong relationships.
* Develop operational models for compliance and cost-effectiveness.
* Coordinate product lifecycle changes efficiently.
* Represent the business in executive supply chain meetings.

What We Are Looking For | Qualifications

* 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
* Experience in supplier relationship management preferred.
* Experience with cGMP manufacturing at CMOs.
* Knowledge of cGMP, ICH, FDA, EMA guidelines.
* Experience in virtual matrixed environments or small biopharma organizations preferred.
* Technical understanding of drug substance and drug product processing for small molecules.
* Experience negotiating complex global supply agreements.
* Strong business and financial acumen.
* Strategic and tactical problem-solving skills.
* Leadership skills in a global matrix environment.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.



Education

* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Supply Chain, or related discipline.



Location | Travel

* Hybrid role based in Zug, Switzerland (no relocation provided).
* Travel up to 20% to CMOs and offices as needed.
