PhD Position in Medical Entomology (100%)
Our research group investigates the biology, surveillance and control of insect vectors of human pathogens. We are offering a PhD position to study the behaviour and ecology of the invasive Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, and to evaluate innovative, community‑based control strategies – including large‑scale adult mosquito trapping – in Basel, Switzerland, as part of a cluster‑randomised controlled trial.
Your responsibilities include:
* Plan and conduct field experiments on mosquito behaviour and ecology
* Collect, manage and analyse entomological and environmental data
* Contribute to the development and evaluation of community‑based vector control strategies
* Support the implementation of a cluster‑randomised controlled trial
* Publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences
You should have the following experience and skills:
* Master’s degree in biology, ecology, epidemiology, entomology or a related field
* Strong interest in vector biology, applied entomology and public health
* Experience with fieldwork and experimental design
* Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
* Quantitative skills and experience with statistical analysis (e.g. R) are an advantage
* Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an asset
