Who are we?

The UK Mission to the UN in Geneva represents the interests and policies of the UK at many international organisations in Geneva and is recruiting a highly motivated part-time IT Support Officer (ITSO) who can take on a range of tasks across the UK Mission in Geneva, alongside the lead ITSO. The role will be a job share at a rate of 40%, and the designated working days for this position will be Thursday and Friday.

The ideal candidate will have excellent administrative skills and be up to date with modern IT platforms and software, with a particular focus on Windows 11, Microsoft Office 365, and Apple IOS. They would also be very customer focussed and be highly motivated to support the wider team with both Administrative and IT issues.

We are looking for a highly professional individual, flexible, well organised and adept at juggling competing demands, as well as being able to manage customer and central IT department expectations.

Main purpose of job:

1. Act as first point of contact for users on IT and be responsible for advice on use of systems, help users to get the most out of the hardware and software provided, and escalate through the correct channels where necessary;
2. You will also be expected to become familiar with the FCDO IT platform known as OSPREY - this is the new standard of hardware and software that supports the work done throughout the FCDO. This system is fully supported by a team in the UK. Training for the use of this platform will be provided and regularly updated;
3. Request changes to user accounts (for Osprey and standalone network) e.g. requesting new account creations from the Service Now desk;
4. Use administration tools to grant access to the TEAMS shared areas and add members to TEAMS sites, Manage shared mailboxes and distribution lists;
5. Be responsible for IT Security Procedures including SOPS management;
6. Provide efficient and user-friendly Business Continuity Plan/Crisis Preparedness – IT Contingency solutions;
7. Manage distribution lists and maintain up to date inventories for all IT equipment;
8. Management of consumables e.g., toner cartridges in conjunction with the FM manager;
9. Review, procure, install and maintain Osprey and non-Osprey hardware equipment (e.g., desktops, laptops, printers, servers (depending on clearance) and iPhones);
10. Install and maintain non-Osprey hardware/peripherals and support cabling, switches, hubs etc;
11. Support in managing the ICT budget;
12. Perform ad-hoc duties as required by the role, occasionally involving travel or out of regular working hours.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Our Ideal Candidate shows:

13. Excellent command of spoken and written English (at a minimum of C1 level according to CEFR*);
14. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in customer service/help desk/customer care;
15. minimum 3 years’ experience related to IT;
16. Calm, resilient problem‑solver with the ability to troubleshoot challenges under pressure and deliver results;
17. Knowledge of Microsoft applications, particularly Windows 10, Office 365, and Ms Teams;
18. Excellent communication and organisational skills;
19. Ability to manage work with limited supervision and to meet deadlines;
20. Ability to write messages clearly and respond to instruction;
21. Ability to work closely with other team members and teams.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Nice to have:

22. Experience in hardware support would also be preferable;
23. Written and spoken French (at a B1 level according to CEFR*).

All applicants should have permission to live and work in Switzerland.

Applicants that have the right to live and work in Geneva and don’t require a visa sponsorship are: Nationals from United Kingdom, European Union and EFTA, along with Nationals of: Brunei Darussalam, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Principality of Andorra, Principality of Monaco, San Marino, Singapore and Vatican – these applicants are eligible to live and work in Switzerland as long as holding a full passport valid for at least 12 months.

All other applicants need to have permission to live and work in Switzerland.

The successful applicant will be required to work exclusively for the UK Mission in Switzerland and to provide written confirmation that no other employment is undertaken.

Once every two months, the selected candidate will be required to adjust one of their regular working days in line with business requirements.
