The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) invites applications for two Scientific Collaborator positions in the area of deep learning and/or NLP at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI) within the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI), located in Lugano. The employment is full-time, with a contract starting on July 15, 2025, or a mutually agreed date.
The selected candidates will conduct advanced research in machine learning, focusing on natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning applications for the financial industry. They will collaborate within an R&D team dedicated to developing deep learning solutions for the financial sector. Responsibilities include:
1. Developing and implementing deep learning systems tailored to the financial industry.
2. Collaborating with R&D teams to execute projects involving the financial industry, working closely with software engineers, researchers, and industry partners.
3. Integrating NLP and deep learning technologies into practical applications through interdisciplinary teamwork.
4. Prototyping AI systems and applying state-of-the-art techniques such as transformers, large language models, and parameter-efficient fine-tuning.
Qualifications:
* Master's degree in computer engineering, machine learning, or an equivalent background.
* Strong programming skills in Python and experience with modern ML tools, including deep learning libraries like PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, and NumPy.
* Ability to work independently and adhere to schedules.
* Top 5-10% of Master graduates from their university.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Extensive experience with deep learning, especially in the context of large language models (LLMs).
* Experience with reinforcement learning related to LLMs.
* Research experience and a PhD are advantageous but not mandatory.
* Additional knowledge in:
o Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
o Containerization tools (Docker).
o CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, CircleCI).
o Microservices architecture and REST APIs.
