Summary
Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to support intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Plans and implements curriculum and utilizes effective teaching strategies.
* Collaborates with parents, administrators, teachers, support staff, and others to develop IEPs for students.
* Prepares draft goals and objectives for students prior to ARD meetings.
* Participates in ARD meetings and supplies required documentation.
* Implements individual educational plans (IEPs) and instructional materials to meet individual needs of students with disabilities.
* Conducts continuous formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and completes required progress reports.
* Acts as case manager for assigned students.
* Maintains records including attendance, progress, interim reports, updated IEPs, grades, and other required documentation while protecting confidentiality.
* Communicates with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
* Observes students in various settings to evaluate instructional strategies, assess IEP appropriateness, and coordinate general and special education curricula.
* Selects and manages special education equipment and maintains inventory.
* Utilizes instructional techniques and technology to meet students’ needs.
* Develops classroom behavior rules and disciplinary procedures consistent with district and building guidelines.
* Works with students to improve motivation, reinforcement, assessment, and feedback.
* Assists students with physical needs such as feeding or other assistance.
* Participates in professional learning activities and attends relevant meetings.
* Keeps informed of applicable federal, state, district, and school regulations.
* Aligns subject matter with Texas Education Agency and Board of Trustees policies and regulations.
* Maintains regular, punctual attendance.
* Demonstrates professional, ethical, and responsible conduct.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises teachers aid(s) and/or volunteer(s); trains, plans, assigns, directs, addresses complaints, and resolves problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree.
* Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsement and/or certification.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports and correspondence; and respond to questions from students, administration, staff, parents, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, apply basic algebra and geometry, and perform advanced mathematics as required.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions; interpret instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
Requires standing, talking, hearing, walking, lifting (up to 45 pounds), routine movement, and occasional prolonged or irregular hours; requires close and distance vision.
Work Environment
Typical duties may involve district-wide travel to multiple campuses; noise levels usually quiet to moderate.
