Position
Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands‑on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.
In this internship, you will support a sustainability‑focused project aimed at identifying PFAS‑free and RoHS‑compliant alternatives to Ni‑PTFE coatings used in the Px01 instrument. You will help build a clear overview of where these coatings are currently applied, analyze the function and requirements of the respective components, and assess suitable replacement options available on the market. After 3 months, you are expected to contribute to a database of coated parts, an evaluation of coating requirements, and a comparison of alternative technologies and materials. Your work will help reduce the use of PFAS‑containing materials, support more sustainable material choices in product development, and prepare for evolving regulatory requirements.
Opportunity
* Identify and document parts in the Px01 instrument that currently use Ni‑PTFE coatings
* Analyze the role of these parts within their assemblies and understand their functional needs
* Define component‑specific requirements such as performance, durability, friction and wear behavior, and chemical resistance
* Research PFAS‑free and RoHS‑compliant coating and material alternatives available on the market
* Compare candidate coatings and materials against technical and functional requirements
* Support the creation of an evaluation matrix for selected alternatives
* Contribute to recommendations for suitable replacement solutions for selected components
* Prepare findings for a summary report and presentation, including proposed next steps for validation or testing
Who You Are
You are enrolled or have completed your Master’s or PhD studies at a university, preferably in the field of Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering, within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.
Furthermore you are
* Experienced in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering, ideally with a focus on metallurgy, tribology, surface engineering, or polymer coatings
* Familiar with AI tools and applications; CAD software proficiency and basic electronics knowledge are a plus
* Solution‑oriented and able to approach technical challenges with an agile mindset
* Collaborative and comfortable working with different stakeholders
* Proficient in English and German
If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.
Additional Information
The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last at least 3 months.
