ABB Discovery Trainee @ Process Automation Energy Industries. Join to apply for the ABB Discovery Trainee @ Process Automation Energy Industries role at ABB. This program offers practical experience with our Energy Industries Division teams for Excitation Systems and Process Automation, including an international assignment to enhance global collaboration skills and prepare for a permanent role.
Start date of the program is April 1, 2026. The selection process is taking place in October/November 2025. The trainee program provides personalized development opportunities, with targeted training measures to enhance skills on a continuous basis, and regular feedback with clear performance goals.
The Energy Industries division enables safe, smart, and sustainable projects and operations across oil, gas, chemicals, life sciences, power generation, and water sectors, driving integrated solutions to automate, digitalize, and electrify operations.
Program structure
The trainee program consists of three assignments, each lasting six months:
1. 1st Assignment in Untersiggenthal, Switzerland: Start your learning journey by contributing to the introduction of a newly developed Excitation product platform and optimizing end-to-end order execution with subject-matter experts. Identify opportunities for further cost and effort reduction along the value chain.
2. 2nd Assignment abroad: Transfer the gained experience to another local execution centre (e.g., Canada, China, or India) and support addressing further improvement potential in product introduction.
3. 3rd Assignment in Untersiggenthal, Switzerland: contribute to the Automation team by leading marketing efforts for expert services in simulation capabilities, designing marketing material, and aligning pricing strategy and execution model.
Background and qualifications
* Completed BSc or MSc degree in Engineering or Automation with demonstrated interest in industrial automation, lean management, or converter technologies
* Applicants should have no more than three years of professional work experience before the start date April 1, 2026
* Authorization to work in Switzerland is required
* Proficient in English; knowledge of German is beneficial
