PhD Student for the “Hunting for rare muon observables” project

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting‑edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. This position is part of Muoniverse, a Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) dedicated to advancing muon science across particle physics, quantum materials, and applications ranging from energy research to cultural heritage.

Muoniverse brings together 30 research teams from universities, research institutions, and museums in a highly collaborative network, supported by the Muoniverse Research School, which coordinates training, exchanges, and career development for PhD students and postdocs.

Who we are looking for

Your tasks

* contribute to the implementation and validation of the frozen‑spin technique for the muon EDM measurement and
* study the adaptation of the muEDM apparatus for EDM searches of light radioactive ions
* contribute to searches for new particles in muon decays within the Mu3e experiment, including axion‑like particles, dark photons, and heavy neutral leptons


Your profile

* Master’s degree in Physics
* Physics background in particle physics and detectors
* Programming skills (commonly C++, Python, or similar languages) and Monte Carlo simulation methods and data analysis techniques
* Interest in connecting ideas and people across disciplines, with a commitment to fostering open, cooperative, and knowledge‑sharing research cultures
* Ability to work effectively in collaborative and international research environments and contribute to interdisciplinary teamwork
* Fluent in English
