Overview
The Director of Adult Education will be responsible for managing the development and administration of adult education and literacy activities across the eight-county college district. This will include overseeing program delivery, performing grant management and fiscal duties, and developing and implementing developmental education programming that facilitates seamless transitions from adult literacy to workforce skill and/or college level learning. The supervisor will oversee the planning and monitoring of ABE, HSED, ESOL, IET, IELCE, and Brush-Up program activities throughout the district, ensuring that operations and outcomes meet grant compliance standards, and also promoting program effectiveness and quality control. In addition, the supervisor will coordinate with other district and campus programs, as well as support ongoing program evaluation and outcome research efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop and promote Adult Education and Literacy activities and opportunities district-wide throughout the college’s eight-county area.
* Coordinate programs in the areas of ABE, HSED, ESOL, and Brush-Up district-wide.
* Responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the IELCE and IET (Integrated Education and Training) programs for ESL students interested in pursuing training and employment.
* Responsible for the development and supervision of Success Coordinator, AEL instructional personnel, teacher/technology trainers, and support staff district-wide.
* Develop and maintain budgets for federal, state, and private allocations that accurately reflect the activities of the AEL program. Keep useable fee compliance and budget monitoring.
* Coordinate and host HSED graduations.
* Implement all state/federal regulations for property and train staff in processes.
* Research grant opportunities that support the various areas of Adult Education and Literacy.
* Work collaboratively with the team to develop and implement training opportunities for instructors.
* Collaborate with instructors and Success Coordinator to collect, maintain, and provide data and other requested information to federal, state, and private funders that proves the quality of the college’s funded programs.
* Work with Institutional Effectiveness to assess the success of students in developmental education courses.
* Coordinate with the college’s developmental education program to assure streamlined services.
* Work with academic deans and directors to design, implement, and assess the delivery of developmental education programming.
* Work to create a seamless transition from adult literacy/developmental education programming to the desired academic pathway.
* Attend state-required meetings and trainings.
* Participate in professional development of enhanced training to advance skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to position.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with five years’ experience in K-12 or post-secondary education required. Master’s degree preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, detail, customer service and management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management required. Working knowledge or experience with TOPSPro Enterprise and Colleague information management systems, College and Career Readiness standards, Compass (college-entrance assessment), and the federal Department of Education National Reporting System preferred. Excellent team building skills. Previous experience in fiscal management of departmental budgets and reporting. Ability to work with students and co-workers with sensitivity and respect for confidential information. Personal qualities of honesty, integrity, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor. Commitment to provide services in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the college. Strong background in student assessment.
