The Opportunity:
The International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) is seeking an experienced, motivated, and collaborative leader to join our team as Head of Sport & Events.
This new role will lead the entire sport and events function of the ISMF, overseeing the international calendar, event planning and delivery, sport rules and officiating, rankings and results, athlete pathways, and sport development programmes.
The position is responsible for managing the consistent application of technical standards, coordinating ISMF Commissions, overseeing official education and licensing, and supporting the day-to-day planning and execution of ISMF competitions and technical operations.
The role requires a balance of strategic oversight and operational delivery. It involves direct coordination with Local Organising Committees, National Members, athletes, service providers, and internal departments. The successful candidate will ensure that ISMF events and sport operations are delivered professionally, efficiently, and in line with ISMF’s governance and development objectives.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
·Competition Calendar – Develop and deliver the annual ISMF events calendar, including application processes, host selection, site inspections, contracting, and change management.
·Event Planning & Delivery – Oversee full event operations, including LOC planning and coordination, supplier management, technical appointments, equipment and signage, timing, rankings, accreditation, safety, and sustainability protocols.
·Operational Planning – Lead the development and implementation of the annual sport and events operational plan, with clear deliverables, responsibilities and timelines.
·Rules & Officiating – Manage the updating of ISMF sport rules, and lead systems for technical official licensing, training, appointment, and evaluation.
·Systems & Innovation – Implement modern platforms for results, rankings, licensing, and member management, and support technical innovation in event delivery and homologation.
·Athlete Pathways – Define and implement athlete development structures across all categories, including grassroots, youth, and elite competition pathways.
·Education & Capacity Building – Lead training, certification, and knowledge-sharing initiatives for National Members, athletes, coaches, and officials.
·Stakeholder Engagement – Coordinate with LOCs, National Members, Commissions, and delivery partners to ensure aligned and high-quality sport operations.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
·5+ years of experience in international sport operations or federation leadership.
·Proven track record in managing competition calendars, technical regulations, officiating systems, rankings, and homologation.
·Experience delivering international sport events, including end-to-end technical, operational, and stakeholder planning.
·Experience developing and implementing athlete development pathways and event structures.
·Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and stakeholder engagement in a federation context.
·Knowledge of ski mountaineering or similar technical sports.
·Strong project management skills and ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
·Fluent in English; French, Italian, or Spanish is an asset.
·Willingness to travel internationally.
Terms of the Role:
* Employment or Contractor: Based on location (ISMF can employ in Switzerland or Italy; otherwise structured as an independent contractor role within Europe).
* Workload: Approximately 80% FTE (flexible based on experience and salary expectations).
* Remuneration: Commensurate with ISMF's compensation framework and the candidate's experience and location.
