Overview

Research Manager, Resilience and Spatial Planning Unit for Ukraine, based in Dnipro (External Applicants).

Position: Research Manager. Contract duration: 6 months. Starting date: October 2025. Location: Dnipro, Ukraine. Department: IMPACT.


Responsibilities

* Staff management: direct management of a national team of approximately 10 staff, including recruitment and staff career management; development and implementation of capacity training plans; day-to-day management with work plans and performance indicators.
* Project / research cycle management: ensure unit assessments and analyses are planned and implemented in a structured manner aligned with project objectives and IMPACT guidelines; oversee all unit research cycles including ToRs, methodology notes, tools, products, and dissemination strategies; ensure timely, accurate, and analytically rigorous reports and factsheets; engage relevant stakeholders in assessment design; monitor output and expenditures to ensure timely completion; advocate for improved analysis using standardized methodologies and tools.
* Grants management: develop and manage research programming with donors, including proposal conceptualization, reporting, and M&E; oversee financial management of unit projects, including budgeting and expenditure forecasting; ensure contractual obligations are met for programme deliverables.
* External engagement and fundraising: represent IMPACT with donors, partners, coordination bodies, and communities of practice in Ukraine; identify and build relationships in the early recovery space at national and subnational levels; identify opportunities for funding proposals in line with partner needs and IMPACT value-add.
* Strategy development and implementation: develop the unit strategy and engagement with technical and coordination forums; identify information gaps in Ukraine and align unit work to fill them; contribute to the country strategy as part of the Senior Management Team; develop dissemination strategies to strengthen impact; coordinate with HQ and IMPACT Global CoPs.
* Confidentiality: maintain strict confidentiality on all data and prevent unauthorized sharing of information and data belonging to IMPACT and partners.


Requirements

* Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
* At least 4 years of relevant humanitarian or early recovery experience (program management, evaluation, assessments).
* Strong quantitative and qualitative research design, data collection, and data analysis experience.
* Demonstrated team management skills, including remote management.
* Excellent communication and drafting skills for effective reporting.
* Prior experience with humanitarian coordination forums preferred.
* Experience with research in conflict-related protracted crises, disaster risk reduction, area-based recovery, settlements approaches, and/or livelihoods and resilience.
* Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment and work independently.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; Adobe Suite preferred; knowledge of MaxQDA or NVivo is an asset.
* Fluency in English; fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian preferred.


Compensation & Benefits

* Salary between 3,240 CHF and 3,480 CHF monthly (before tax) plus a monthly living allowance of 300 USD; salaries are determined by grade and education; location-based adjustments apply for difficult working conditions.
* Accommodation provided with housing allowance option.

* Flight tickets every 6 months and visa fees covered; in-country travel costs and professional expenses fully covered.
* Contribution for luggage transport (20-100 kg depending on contract length), plus personal property insurance.
* Annual leave of 36 days per year plus public holidays; family/compassionate leave when applicable.
* Pre-departure induction in Geneva and Paris, including security training.
* Health coverage includes psychosocial counselling up to 1000 EUR per year.
