Graduate Professional (Middle East WMD Free Zone Project)
Position at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).
Overview
UNIDIR is a UN autonomous institution that conducts independent research on disarmament and related problems, especially international security. The Middle East Weapons of Mass Destruction Free Zone (ME WMDFZ) Project seeks a Graduate Professional to assist with research and support the implementation of project activities aimed at mitigating regional WMD proliferation, encouraging security arrangements, deepening understanding of regional developments, and promoting a sustainable free zone.
Responsibilities
* Conduct background research.
* Assist in planning and implementing programme activities (meetings, workshops, conferences, field missions).
* Provide administrative support to projects.
* Communicate with project partners.
* Perform other tasks as required by project staff.

* Research and presentation skills.
* Ability to synthesize information into concise, high‑quality written briefs.
* Organization and coordination of multiple tasks.
* Interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills (written and oral).
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Strong interest in international peace and security, disarmament, Middle East affairs, and UN work.

Qualifications and Experience
Education – To qualify, applicants must either be enrolled in a graduate programme or have graduated within the past year. Preference is given to those with postgraduate degrees relevant to the project (international affairs, security studies, law).
Work Experience – Professional experience is not required; however, demonstrated experience or interest in non‑proliferation and arms control in the Middle East is an asset. Computer literacy and a commitment to UN ideals are required.
Languages – Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a language spoken in the Middle East is an asset.
Additional Requirements
* Proof of valid medical insurance covering the programme period and a medical certificate of good health.
* Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the Graduate Professional or their sponsor.
