Mechanical Designer – SOLIDWORKS (6-Month Contract)
Location: Onsite Only – No Remote Work
Pay Rate: $35–$45/hour
Contract Length: 6 months
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer on behalf of our client—a manufacturer of ruggedized heating and cooling systems for military and aerospace applications. This is a 6-month onsite contract position offering competitive pay and the opportunity to work on mission-critical technology.
About the Role:
In this role, you'll support our client's engineering team by providing drafting, design, and technical documentation for both new product development and improvements to existing systems. Projects include high-performance air handling units, environmental control units (ECUs), and other equipment used in military command posts and for aircraft cooling while on the ground.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and detail sheet metal enclosures, structural steel, and weldments using SOLIDWORKS.
* Create and revise 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models based on new concepts or reverse-engineered parts.
* Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and incorporate redline changes.
* Collaborate with engineers and other team members to support design reviews and implement updates.
* Ensure compliance with MIL-STD, ASME, and GD&T standards where applicable.
Required Qualifications:
* 3–5 years of mechanical design experience using SOLIDWORKS (CSWP certification a plus).
* Proven experience with sheet metal design, weldments, and structural steel.
* Background in reverse engineering of products.
* Skilled in producing manufacturing-ready drawings with attention to detail and tolerancing.
* Familiarity with GD&T and MIL-STD practices .
* Must be able to work onsite—this is not a remote position.
Experience:
* Electro-mechanical design exposure.
* Work history involving military or aerospace equipment and standards.

Their products include large, mobile sheet metal enclosures mounted on wheels, trailers, or forklift-compatible bases—designed to provide climate control in the harshest environments.
