Overview
We are seeking an experienced French IPIT lawyer (Avocat) to join the Practical Law team. Practical Law is a leading online service providing expert-created, practical content for legal professionals. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
Responsibilities
* Research, write, and maintain clear, current, and practical legal content aligned with market practice, customer needs, and business objectives.
* Review and edit content produced by colleagues or external experts.
* Stay current on legal, practice, and market developments to keep content accurate and relevant.
* Support the development of customer-focused AI‑powered legal solutions by applying legal expertise.
* Assist in the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
* Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of the legal market, customers, emerging needs, and competitors.
* Interact effectively with customers, consultation boards, and contributors.
* Collaborate with product, sales, marketing, and technology functions to provide insights into business strategies and product development.
* Attend training events, conferences, webinars, and industry meetings to network and stay informed about industry trends.
* Contribute to the development of Practical Law France and the broader Practical Law platform.
* Provide specialist legal knowledge across Thomson Reuters teams, including product management, sales, marketing, and technology.
Qualifications
* French bar qualified (Avocat).
* Minimum 5 years of post‑qualification experience in IP and/or IT law in France.
* Substantial experience with French IP and/or IT law.
* Excellent writing and communication skills in English; passion for clear, concise, plain‑English legal writing.
* Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and in teams.
* Strong technical skills and ability to leverage tools, including generative AI, to improve productivity and accuracy.
* Adaptable and flexible when working on diverse projects within the generative AI space and emerging technologies.
* Curiosity about the intersection of AI and legal practice and openness to change.
* Experience using AI tools in legal work.
* Excellent knowledge of online research databases.
* Comfortable working with ambiguity and in a matrixed environment; proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse teams.
* Proficient translation skills from French to English and vice versa (desirable).
