Grounds Foreman
Job Description
Summary - performs technical grounds work and provides on-site coordination, quality control, and leadership of Grounds employees in work primarily related to the following areas: 1) pest management for and maintenance of woody, herbaceous and ornamental plants: 2) turf installation and maintenance including irrigation, weed and pest management and field preparation; 3) transit area maintenance, debris and trash control, and hardscape work; 4) Landscaping and irrigation installation. The Grounds Foreman assists in training employees in proper Grounds procedures in use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles for technical work and the technical aspects of installation, application, maintenance, and removal of plants and materials.Essential Functions:
Supervisory Responsibility- Must possess the necessary supervisory skills, organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills required in planning, organizing, motivating and coaching a highly diverse groundskeeping team.
Education/Licensure/Experience - Training and experience commensurate with assigned duties. Must be familiar with OSHA, EPA and other safety standards as well as ADA Compliance. EPA Certification and Herbicide application license preferred. Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
Language/Communication - Ability to analyze, interpret and respond effectivelyto written and verbal communication. Ability to define problems, collect information and draw valid conclusions and express them to others verbally or in written form.
Work Environment - This job requires exposure to moving parts, electrical components and extreme hot and cold conditions. In addition the employee will often be exposed to precarious places, vibration, chemicals, and loud noises.
Physical Demands: Must be able to listen and communicate verbally. Must be able to lift and carry groundskeeping supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis, prolonged walking or standing, and frequent bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching on a daily basis. Requires full range of physical motion in order to operate manual, electric, gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and machines, hand and power tools and equipment associated with technical grounds work. Requires the ability to access areas that may only be accessible by climbing stairs or ladders. Must be able to move throughout assigned areas, as the work is being performed.
Attendance - must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent absences, during the contract year.

* Developes an effective team by instructing employees and supervising the proper use of tools, materials, and equipment for safe and effective work performance and assuring that the work is accomplished in the most efficient and timely manner possible.
* Will remain current in best practices necessary to promote healthy, visually appealing grounds and landscaping through self‑directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues and attending approved professional development activities.
* Actively perform technical duties while leading teams in the completion of such task.
* Develops schedules and organizes work to ensure that the School Grounds are maintained in a timely and visually appealing manner.
* Supervises staff and aides the Assistant Superintendent in recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff.
* Contributes to the overall success of the Grounds Department by performing all other duties as assigned.
