The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is hiring Senior Communications Specialist - Media and Public Relations within the Communications, Global Media and Public Relations department.
This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the job:
Uses expert knowledge of central banking, economics and finance to craft well-planned, strategic and effective communications campaigns. Advises and guides senior managers in their external engagement efforts, using a range of techniques and channels. Builds and maintains close relationships with media across time zones, languages and geographies.
By joining the Communications team, you will:

· Contribute to the design of engaging and compelling campaigns that meet the objectives and needs of internal and external stakeholders.
Principal accountabilities:
* Provides communications advice to a defined set of business areas (such as the Monetary and Economics Department, BIS Innovation Hub and BIS-hosted bodies, for example). Leads the communications on specialist topics from economics to financial regulation, fintech and payments, supporting and guiding senior managers and planning outreach activities.
* Partners with business areas to determine communications and public relations strategic goals and needs.
* Identifies opportunities to strengthen engagement with media, including fostering close relationships with journalists around the globe. Has a good news sense and knows the media landscape well. Provides news analysis across time zones and geographies.
* Creates compelling and impactful content to support the Bank’s media outreach and public relations activities, ranging from supporting speechwriting to multimedia. Uses a variety of channels to effectively disseminate content to target audiences.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
* At least five years’ experience leading media and public relations campaigns, preferably in an international environment.
* University degree in a relevant field, such as economics, communications, journalism, or equivalent work experience.
* Experience in central banking, economics, financial services would be an advantage.
* Experience in web-based communications, social media channels, and/or video communications.
* Strong knowledge of economics, finance and central banking trends in developed and developing countries.
* Strong customer orientation and ability to act proactively to address business needs.
* Dynamic, responsive team player with highly developed interpersonal skills and track record of collaboration within and across teams.
* Outstanding organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage projects and work flexibly under deadlines and across multiple time zones.
* Outstanding English writing and editing skills. Any additional languages would be a nice to have.
