JOB TITLE:
Assistant Superintendent of Schools
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Meet all legal and Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements for certification.
* Successful experience in public education, with a minimum of two years as a classroom teacher and three years as a member of an administrative staff.
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

SUPERVISION DUTIES:
Programs and personnel designated by the Superintendent.
JOB GOAL:
To assist the superintendent substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services for the school district.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Function as a line officer and represent the superintendent in his/her absence.
* Maintain a close professional relationship with the superintendent.
* Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare such reports for the board as the superintendent may request.
* Assist in the determination of types of programs needed by the school and make appropriate recommendations.
* Report on the status of district programs and services at the request of the superintendent.
* Organize and administer appropriate faculty and advisory committees, including the technology committee and required federal programs advisory committees.
* Assist with the ongoing evaluation of district programs and personnel; perform the evaluation of the secretary to the assistant superintendent.
* Assist in the preparation and administration of the budget and maintain knowledge of the financial administration of the district.
* Participate in appropriate local, state, and national professional meetings.
* Direct a program of continuous improvement of all core disciplinary areas for all levels of instruction; research available instructional programs and materials.
* Direct the continuous improvement of all courses of study for specialized instruction.
* Provide administrative supervision and direction for all curriculum publications.
* Supervise the acquisition, development, and maintenance of district computer and data processing operations for both instructional and management purposes; develop and administer the district technology plan.
* Direct and supervise the in-service education program for teachers and principals through conferences, workshops, group discussions, committee studies and the use of consultants for the purpose of improving instruction.
* Direct and supervise the district Professional Development Program and implement its policies and procedures, including the tuition reimbursement program.
* Direct the student teacher training program and the substitute teacher training program in the district.
* Direct and supervise the district teacher mentor program and beginning teacher assistance program.
* Direct and supervise the study and selection of all basic and supplementary textbooks, library books, materials, and educational equipment for all instructional areas.
* Develop and monitor the district’s assessment plan.
* Supervise the preparation of reports of pupil programs to parents and the records of pupil progress for the school files.
* Provide administrative leadership in the development of all compensatory education programs for disadvantaged pupils in the district.
* Coordinate MSIP reviews.
* Suspend from school for up to ninety (90) days any pupil guilty of gross misconduct or continual insubordination to school organization and/or regulations and privileges in accordance with Missouri statutes.
* Serve as the first level of appeal for student disciplinary actions from the building level.
* Direct and supervise the district’s safety, emergency, and crisis programs and procedures. Provide training to district staff as needed and schedule drills necessary for student and staff preparation.
* Review all news releases from the buildings and direct them to the appropriate media outlets.
* Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
