Postdoctoral Fellow in Electrochemical Degradation of Water Pollutants
The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. It conducts cutting‑edge research in future technologies, energy & climate, health innovation and fundamental science. PSI employs about 2300 people, and about one quarter are post‑docs, post‑graduates or apprentices.
In the Electrocatalysis and Interfaces Group of the Electrochemistry Laboratory, we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to investigate electrochemical oxidation mechanisms for the removal of emerging contaminants in water and develop next‑generation electrocatalysts for water purification.
Responsibilities
* Investigate the mechanisms of electrochemical oxidation processes (EOP) for removal of emerging contaminants via hydroxyl radical generation.
* Analyse reaction intermediates and products using a range of analytical chemistry techniques.
* Employ advanced characterisation methods—including synchrotron‑based techniques—to study materials under operating conditions and establish design principles for next‑generation EOP electrocatalysts.
* Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Electrochemistry Department, the Swiss Light Source, and international partners.
Qualifications
* PhD in Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a closely related discipline.
* Strong background and experience in electrochemistry and water purification through electrochemical oxidation processes.
* Experience with analytical techniques for water purification analysis is required.
* Knowledge of spectroscopic techniques is an advantage.
* Strong interest in experimental work and initiative in developing new solutions.
* Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative and interdisciplinary research team.
* Excellent communication and scientific writing skills in English.
Benefits
* Systematic on‑the‑job training and personal development opportunities.
* Support for work–life balance and modern employment conditions.
* Employment contract for 2 years, with option to extend for an additional year.
