Lead, Minerals Innovation and Sustainability
Location: Geneva (from October 2025 to September 2027, with possible extension)
The World Economic Forum is an international organization dedicated to public-private cooperation, engaging global leaders to shape agendas at various levels.
The Forum aims to facilitate a sustainable, secure, and just energy and materials transition to meet future societal needs. It has established the Securing Minerals for the Energy Transition (SMET) initiative to promote policy dialogue, investment, innovation, and thought leadership worldwide.
Why we are recruiting
The SMET initiative is expanding its activities around innovation and sustainability. The Lead will oversee these areas, including drafting clear outputs, collaborating with partners to refine content, and providing accessible data insights to support dialogues. The role also involves monitoring developments in innovation, sustainability standards, and traceability, and liaising between the SMET team and the Forum’s Centre for Nature and Climate.
Reporting lines and interactions
The Lead reports to the Manager of Material Systems and collaborates across multiple teams. Externally, the role involves engaging with stakeholders, industry bodies, associations, and public entities.
Main responsibilities
* Lead knowledge and projects on sustainability, innovation, and traceability across the minerals value chain.
* Develop and deliver workstreams related to these themes.
* Create insights, reports, and briefing materials to inform decision-making and engagement.
* Manage collaborative projects with public and private partners, overseeing timelines and impact.
* Organize sessions, workshops, and events to promote sustainable resource use.
* Monitor industry trends and translate them into actionable opportunities.
Qualifications and skills
* Masters’ degree or equivalent in International Economics, Energy, or Public Policy.
* 7-10 years of experience in international trade policy.
* Knowledge of minerals value chains and key trends.
* Understanding of sustainability, traceability, and circularity in minerals.
* Ability to work effectively across teams.
* Fluent in English with excellent drafting skills.
* Strong partnership and relationship-building skills.
