Join to apply for the PhD in Organic Chemistry
feat. Photo- & Redox Chemistry, Protacs role at Universität Zürich
Dive into our vibrant world where we craft organic dyes into photocages that deliver and activate drugs with tissue-penetrating light as a trigger. We are looking for a PhD candidate to join our research group at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Zurich. Our interdisciplinary research merges organic chemistry, photochemistry, and biology, and pushes the boundaries of applied photochemistry. Our tools help unravel biological processes and advance drug delivery solutions. Our ultimate goal is to push the frontiers of medicine by enabling next-generation and personalized therapies. The position is fully funded by the SNSF Starting Grant for four years. Please visit our website for more information.
Your Responsibilities As a PhD candidate, you will embark on an exciting journey to conquer the energy gap law by pioneering a rational design approach that integrates photochemistry, redox chemistry extending to biological experiments—propelling the drug delivery field forward. You possess excellent critical thinking skills and keen attention to detail. You are a friendly team player who can step up and deliver in crucial moments when the team needs it the most. You have:
A first-class Master's degree in chemistry or organic chemistry, awarded prior to the start of the contract
An excellent background in organic synthesis, redox chemistry, and physical organic chemistry is essential, proficiency in inert atmosphere techniques (glovebox, vacuum line, Schlenk techniques) and cyclic voltammetry
Experience with biology (cell viability studies, flow cytometry, bioimaging, western blotting) or photochemistry is an advantage
Academic awards at the university or national level
Excellent communication skills and excellent command of English, both spoken and written
Information on your application Applications should be sent as a single PDF file and must include a cover letter briefly stating your motivation for the position, a CV containing the names and contact details of two references, and a summary of past research experience.
