Location: Basel with one year training program in Africa
Key Responsibilities
1. Supply Chain Risk and Compliance Management
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Mitigation
* Identify and assess regulatory risks associated with international supply chains.
* Conduct due diligence audits of suppliers to verify compliance with regulatory and ethical standards, ensuring sustainable and reliable supply chains.
* Collaborate with the ESG team to integrate certifications (e.g., FSC, PEFC) into compliance frameworks for new sourcing regions.
* Monitor and ensure compliance with international and local regulations, including EUDR, UKDR, FLEGT, Lacey Act, and other relevant frameworks.
Traceability and Transparency
* Implement technological traceability systems (e.g., blockchain) to document and share every step of the forest management process, from harvest to delivery.
* Audit traceability systems using external standards (e.g., ISO) to ensure compliance and enhance transparency for stakeholders and customers.
Chemical and Environmental Risks
* Analyse risks associated with active substances used for wood product treatment, ensuring compliance with international regulations (e.g., REACH, Biocidal Products Regulation).
2. Compliance Documentation and Certification
* Prepare, maintain, and update compliance documentation for internal and external use.
* Ensure alignment with international regulatory frameworks, including:
* Prepare and maintain compliance reports to demonstrate transparency and alignment with regulatory expectations, addressing supply chain requirements and certification needs for partners internationally.
3. Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)
* Conduct Life Cycle Assessments to evaluate the environmental impact of products across their life cycle.
* Develop and manage Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) in line with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards.
* Collaborate with product development, marketing, and sales teams to integrate LCA and EPD insights into product design, sustainability communication, and customer engagement.
4. Supporting ESG Communication
Work closely with the CSR team to strengthen communication on ESG commitments:
* Develop communication campaigns highlighting biodiversity conservation, wildlife management, and community benefits.
* Use testimonials from local communities and partners to showcase the positive impacts of FSC-certified forestry activities.
* Invest in public reporting, using clear indicators to demonstrate performance beyond certification.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science or a related field.
* At least 5 years of experience in compliance management, supply chain risk assessment, or regulatory affairs.
* Experience in forestry, timber, or related industries is an advantage.
Technical Skills
* Regulatory Compliance: Expertise in Swiss and international frameworks (EUDR, UKDR, FLEGT, Lacey Act, CITES, REACH, and BPR), including due diligence and reporting requirements.
* Risk Management: Skilled in supply chain risk assessments, due diligence audits, and mitigating compliance risks for international operations.
* Sustainability Analysis: Proficient in conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and managing Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) to ISO standards.
* Traceability and Technology: Experience with blockchain systems, traceability audits (ISO standards), and stakeholder communication on product sourcing.
* Language Proficiency: Strong command of French and English, particularly for preparing and analyzing technical documents from our subsidiaries.
