For the Solid State Dynamics Group we are looking for a
Your tasks
* PhD Thesis in condensed matter physics
* Investigation of the existence of `charge ice’ correlated disorder and its effect on the properties of beta-pyrochlores, characterisation of novel states and phase transitions originating from the charge ice structure
* Support of user activities at the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and/or teaching activities generally at the institution of the thesis advisor
* Synthesis and crystal growth of beta-pyrochlore materials
* Characterisation of beta-pyrochlore powders and crystals by neutron and x-ray diffraction, diffuse scattering, and total scattering
* Investigation of magnetic and lattice properties of beta-pyrochlores by bulk measurements and neutron scattering
* Interpretation of data and modelling of properties to gain a systematic understanding of the beta pyrochlores
Your profile
* Master degree in physics or chemistry
* Experience in materials synthesis and characterisation
* Experience in numerical data analysis
