Biomarker Discovery Scientist
Our client is a pioneer in Drug Discovery and Development and one of the frontrunners in Personalised Healthcare. As the world`s largest R&D spender in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics domain, they work in a vast number of drug discovery & therapeutic areas and are highly recognized internationally.
We are currently looking for a Biomarker Discovery Scientist for a 12-month contract (parental leave cover) based in Basel, Switzerland.
It is an on-site position in a lab environment, no home office.
The client’s Proteomics & Metabolomics Technology Platform within the 360 Labs Initiative is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and collaborative scientist to join their team as a Biomarker Discovery Scientist in the 360 Labs Proteomics and Metabolomics Platform in Basel. You'll work with a sense of urgency as part of a matrix team, collaborating with experts from various therapeutic areas and functions to drive early biomarker identification and validation. This is a unique opportunity to lead critical projects and make a significant impact in a fast-paced environment. The role is a temporary for 1 year, full-time position covering a planned leave.
Main Responsibilities:
- Using both mass spectrometry (MS) and non-MS based methods to create scalable targeted and untargeted protein assays. These assays will be applied to liquid biopsies, tissues, and in vitro models to discover and validate disease biomarkers, identify new drug targets, and elucidate drug mechanisms.
- Leading biomarker discovery projects across therapeutic areas. This includes being accountable for the timely implementation of assays, generating project reports, and presenting findings to key stakeholders.
- Serving as an ambassador for in-house and outsourced activities, providing expertise on experimental study design and analytical frameworks.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required
- PhD in Biochemistry or a related field
- Ideally with post-doctoral research experience in biomarker discovery and validation, preferably within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
- Biomarker experience within PhD or first industry experience in a related field
- Expertise as a highly skilled experimentalist, capable of designing and executing complex studies using both targeted and untargeted MS and preferably also non-MS based approaches (e.g. Olink)
- Exceptional competency in processing, analyzing, and interpreting both MS and ideally also non-MS based data
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English
- A customer-focused mindset, with a drive for growth and a questioning attitude. You should be skilled in creative problem-solving, organization, and implementing innovative ideas efficiently.
