Head of Risk Management – Basel, Switzerland – 5 year fixed term

Key responsibilities include:
* Define and implement the BIS risk management framework and governance in line with the Bank’s risk appetite and strategic goals.
* Oversee financial risk management, ensuring independent assessment, monitoring and mitigation of risks related to BIS banking activities.
* Lead operational risk management and second‑line‑of‑defence functions such as Resilience and Banking Compliance.
* Drive scenario analysis to identify and address emerging risks, supporting the Bank’s strategy.
* Manage and develop a diverse team of 40 professionals, ensuring effective resource planning and succession.
* Represent BIS in external networks with central banks, international financial institutions and other professional bodies.
Required qualifications:
* Over 15 years of experience in financial and operational risk management, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role.
* Experience in a central bank, international financial institution or global financial organisation is a plus.
* Strong technical expertise in financial risk (credit analysis, scenario modelling) and operational risk.
* Strategic vision, ability to drive change and collaborative mindset to foster a strong risk culture.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; additional languages are an asset.
* Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
