SAP Development Consultant – Technical Senior Consultant
Job Summary
B&A is seeking a SAP Development Consultant – Technical Senior Consultant to support a federal government client operating within a classified environment. This role is responsible for the design, development, and sustainment of custom ABAP solutions— including reports, enhancements, forms, interfaces, and workflows— that extend and optimize SAP ERP/S4HANA capabilities in support of complex federal business requirements. The ideal candidate is a seasoned ABAP developer with broad cross-module experience, deep knowledge of the SAP enhancement framework and S/4HANA development paradigms, and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, secure, and maintainable custom solutions within the rigorous change management and cybersecurity standards of a classified federal environment.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and deploy custom ABAP solutions including reports, enhancements, interfaces, forms, and workflows across SAP ERP/S4HANA functional modules in support of federal business requirements
Analyze functional specifications and technical requirements provided by functional consultants and solution architects, translating them into robust, performant, and maintainable ABAP code
Develop and maintain SAP enhancements using user exits, Business Add-Ins (BAdIs), enhancement spots, Business Transaction Events (BTEs), and implicit and explicit enhancement framework components
Build and maintain custom SAP reports using ABAP Objects, ALV Grid and List, and SAP Query tools, ensuring accurate data retrieval and adherence to federal reporting standards
Design and develop SAP Adobe Forms, SAP Smart Forms, and SAPscript output objects in support of federal procurement, financial, and operational document requirements
Develop and maintain Workflow (SAP Business Workflow and SAP Business Rule Framework plus) solutions to automate approval processes and business event management across functional areas
Conduct thorough unit testing, code reviews, and performance tuning of custom ABAP developments, ensuring code quality and compliance with SAP development standards and client coding guidelines
Manage and maintain SAP transport requests across development, quality assurance, and production system landscapes in adherence to federal change management policies
Collaborate with functional consultants, architects, and federal IT security teams to ensure all custom developments meet SAP security authorization concepts and federal cybersecurity requirements
Develop and maintain technical documentation including technical design specifications, code documentation, transport logs, and post-implementation support runbooks
Education And Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in SAP ABAP development across multiple functional modules including design, development, testing, and production support of custom reports, enhancements, forms, and workflows
Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting federal government clients or operating within regulated, defense, or classified IT environments
Demonstrated proficiency in ABAP Objects and the SAP enhancement framework including user exits, BAdIs, enhancement spots, BTEs, CDS views, AMDPs, and OData service development in SAP S/4HANA
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field
Required Skills
Deep proficiency in ABAP development including ABAP Objects (OOP), data dictionary objects, internal tables, field symbols, dynamic programming, and performance optimization techniques
Extensive experience developing SAP enhancements using user exits, BAdIs, enhancement spots, BTEs, and implicit/explicit enhancement framework components across core SAP modules (FI, MM, PP, SD, HCM)
Hands‑on experience building custom ALV reports, SAP Adobe Forms, Smart Forms, and SAPscript output objects for federal financial, procurement, and operational use cases
Proficiency in SAP Workflow development including task definition, event linkage, agent determination, and Business Rule Framework plus (BRFplus) rule configuration
Strong understanding of SAP authorization concepts, role‑based access control, and the security implications of custom ABAP development in a classified federal environment
Experience managing SAP transport landscapes including transport request creation, import queues, and change management procedures across multi‑tier system landscapes
Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA development paradigms including CDS (Core Data Services) views, AMDP (ABAP Managed Database Procedures), and OData service development
Ability to interpret and implement functional design specifications with precision, and to communicate technical constraints and solutions clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
Experience working within federal or classified IT environments with adherence to strict change management, code review, and cybersecurity compliance protocols
Desired Skills
SAP Certified Development Associate – ABAP with SAP NetWeaver or SAP S/4HANA certification
Experience with SAP Fiori/UI5 application development including OData service consumption, SAP Business Application Studio (BAS), and Fiori launchpad configuration
Familiarity with SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) development services including SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) and SAP BTP ABAP Environment
Experience developing within air‑gapped or classified network environments, including adherence to cross‑domain solution (CDS) transfer protocols for code and transport movement
Knowledge of NIST SP 800‑53 security controls as they apply to custom software development and code security reviews in federal SAP environments
Prior experience on DOE, DOD, or other federal agency SAP development programs operating within classified or sensitive compartmented environments
Security Clearance
Active Top Secret (TS) or DOE Q clearance is required; eligibility for SCI access may be required depending on program assignment
