Head of Precision Diagnostics External Engagement
The Head of Precision Diagnostics External Engagement is a senior role in the R&D organization at GSK, where the role holder drives business development and transactions in the field of biomarker and diagnostics to support the success of GSK in Oncology.
The External Engagement team sits within Precision Diagnostics as part of the broader Oncology Translational Medicine (OTM) organization and is responsible for leading search and evaluation, negotiation and execution of transactions supporting complex collaborations and strategic alliances in the field of biomarker research and precision diagnostics in Oncology.
The role holder will collaborate directly with Precision Diagnostic leaders and Oncology Translational Medicine matrix teams to align business development with R&D strategy; synthesise and communicate effectively to support decision-making by the Oncology R&D leadership team and negotiate directly with external parties.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the deal-making process in the diagnostic industry and a proven transactions track record. The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in Oncology and Precision Medicine, strong business acumen, project management skills and outstanding people leadership to collaborate internally and externally.
Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end transactions in the field of biomarker and diagnostics in Oncology, including search and evaluation, assessment of deal proposals, negotiations and contract execution.
* Collaborate with Precision Diagnostics Leads and broader Oncology Translational Medicine team to align business development activities with R&D strategy.
* Oversee and lead the drafting of non-binding term sheets and definitive agreements with support from Procurement, Regulatory Legal and Finance and serve as a key point of contact with the external partner throughout the deal process.
* Serve as the internal lead in both preparation and presentation of transactional aspects of each business case to senior management.
* As appropriate participate in Joint Steering Committees of major strategic collaborations with Alliance Management colleagues to provide effective decisions and drive a successful external portfolio of projects.
* Establish and maintain a broad network of internal and external stakeholders and maintain a high level of external visibility.
* Accumulate expertise in industry trends in deal-making and deal structures.
Basic Qualifications
* Advanced degree in science, law or business (e.g., MS, LLM, MBA, PhD, JD, MD).
* 10+ years of experience in life sciences industry, and 5+ years of relevant biopharma and diagnostic business development transactions experience (licensing, collaborations and/or M&A) leading multiple closed deals (deal sheet required).
* Experience integrating scientific knowledge into business models and analysing diagnostic development milestones and deal structures.
* Experience building successful internal/external global partnership and collaboration relationships.
* Expertise in reviewing and editing contracts and providing direction to legal team members in term sheets and contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in Oncology companion diagnostic business development transactions.
* Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with ability to synthesize and communicate high-level insights effectively to senior management internally and externally.
* Demonstrated strong negotiation skills.
If you are based in Cambridge, MA; Waltham, MA; Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges $242,250 to $403,750. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share‑based long‑term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
