Role Overview
The Social Media & Content Manager is responsible for planning, creating, and publishing high-quality social media and editorial content that strengthens the organisation’s external presence and engagement. The role is highly execution-focused, with a strong emphasis on writing, visual storytelling, and video-led content for social platforms, particularly LinkedIn and Instagram.
Working closely with internal stakeholders and external contributors, the Social Media & Content Manager translates themes, events, partnerships, and insights into compelling digital content, while also supporting newsletters and selected PR activities. Social media channels and newsletters are run in English which is Africa Collective’s main working language.
Key Responsibilities
* Social Media Content Creation & Management (Core Focus) – Own the day-to-day management of social media channels, with a primary focus on LinkedIn and Instagram.
* Create and publish engaging written, visual, and short-form video content aligned to organisational priorities.
* Develop weekly content plans and manage content calendars, while responding to real-time opportunities.
* Adapt messaging and tone for different audiences and platforms.
* Research relevant news, trends, partner activity, and cultural stories and convert these into social media content.
* Design social media visuals using tools such as Canva.
* Manage increased content output during campaigns and major events.
* Video & Multimedia Content – Develop concepts for video-led social content, including interviews, event highlights, and behind-the-scenes material.
* Brief and coordinate photographers and videographers as required.
* Support on-site content capture during events, including filming interviews and gathering usable footage.
* Edit or oversee the editing of short-form video assets for social distribution.
* Write and edit clear, engaging copy for social media, captions, and campaign messaging.
* Draft and publish newsletters (two per month; we use Mailchimp).
* Produce short articles, interviews, and announcements for websites or digital platforms.
* Ensure editorial quality, consistency, and accuracy across all content outputs.
* Digital Platforms & Content Publishing – Update and maintenance of Africa Collective and Swiss-African Business Circle websites (we use Lovable).
* Publish and maintain content across websites and digital channels, including news items and event-related updates.
* Ensure timely updates and alignment between social media and owned platforms.
* Support basic performance tracking and optimisation of content formats and posting schedules.
* Campaigns, Events & Visibility – Deliver integrated social media campaigns around key initiatives and flagship events, including pre-event, live, and post-event content.
* Travel and work on-site at events when required to support real-time social content and coverage.
* Capture insights and highlights during events for post-event content creation.
* PR & Partner Communications – Selected PR and media activities, including drafting announcements, press releases, and media-facing content.
* Work with partners and stakeholders to secure quotes, approvals, and content contributions.
* Promote partner and stakeholder visibility through social media storytelling.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in a social media, content, or digital communications role.
* Strong writing and editing skills, with experience producing content for professional or public audiences.
* Demonstrated experience creating short-form video content for social platforms.
* Strong understanding of LinkedIn and Instagram content formats and best practices.
* Hands-on experience using Canva and social publishing tools.
* Ability to manage multiple content streams and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience supporting event-based content and live social coverage.
* Familiarity with newsletter platforms (e.g. Mailchimp).
* French, German, Portuguese or Arabic a plus
* Exposure to PR or media communications.
* Interest in business, policy, culture, or topics related to the African continent.
