Patent Attorney
The role of Patent Attorney involves a strategic approach to managing and delivering global patent and related intellectual property strategies, with the goal of safeguarding and enhancing our R&D activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patent Strategy:
* Develop and implement a tailored patent portfolio strategy that addresses national and international laws and guidelines, focusing on building and safeguarding intellectual property assets.
* Counsel and advise management and R&D teams on patent-related matters, ensuring effective risk management and mitigation.
2. Intellectual Property Management:
* Manage the prosecution and defence of CSL intellectual property, including invention harvesting, optimising, and defending regulatory exclusivities and lifecycle management activities.
* Partner with leadership to develop life cycle management initiatives that drive high impact for the organisation.
3. Communication and Collaboration:
* Contribute to cross-functional teams to deliver IP strategy and advice, fostering a matrix work model that encourages collaboration and expertise sharing.
* Provide freedom to operate analysis across elected countries, developing risk mitigation strategies and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
4. Qualifications and Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in a relevant life sciences discipline (chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology) or equivalent qualification.
* Master's degree or PhD highly regarded.
* Qualified Patent Attorney or IP lawyer admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction (AU, EP, DE, UK, US preferred).
* At least 4-8 years post-qualification experience in Intellectual Property.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience in life science technologies and operations of in-house IP teams.
