Overview
Director Value Chain Leader (VCL) - Synthetics is a leadership role overseeing all activities from Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient to Finished Goods distribution for new synthetic products, managing development through commercialization. The VCL leads global cross-functional teams to execute strategies for new product introductions and achieve key milestones, ensuring effective collaboration among stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.

Role Scope
The VCL for Synthetics coordinates Product Strategy Roadmap (PSR), IMSC activities and resources, supports global launches, and maintains supply sustainability until products transition to the late-stage portfolio. Responsibilities include tech transfer, business continuity planning, and ensuring supply chain reliability.
Key Responsibilities
* New Product Introduction (NPI) Strategy and Execution: lead strategy and execution for new product launches with CMC and Global Commercial Teams; manage IMSC deliverables, milestones, priorities, business cases, and launch readiness.
* Sourcing and Supply Chain Strategy: identify future sourcing locations, set brand supply chain strategy, prepare business cases for LCM, secure funding, and oversee LCM plan implementation.
* Risk Management and Communication: identify, mitigate, and communicate supply chain risks across development, launch readiness, and optimization stages; align commercial strategies with launch strategy and PSR.
* Stakeholder Engagement and Representation: represent IMSC in cross-functional forums and collaborate with DPDS, Quality, Commercial and Strategy teams.
* Team Leadership and Development: mentor VCT members, resolve technical and business conflicts, and foster innovation and customer-centric digital approaches.
* Strategic Supply Chain Ownership: oversee inputs such as product development, brand investment, supply chain setup, and global launch strategy; improve reliability, resilience, and cycle time using digital tools.
* Product Performance and Issue Management: monitor COGs, quality metrics, inventory, compliance, and demand/capacity planning; lead issue resolution through cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering field; advanced degree (MSc, PhD) or MBA related to science or engineering preferred.
Experience & Skills:
* Knowledge of developing and manufacturing complex synthetic products (synthetic chemistry, continuous manufacturing, spray drying, PAT).
* Extensive experience in supply chain operations and R&D (typically 10–12 years); understanding of API/DP operations, manufacturing transfers, NPD and Launch, quality, and regulatory matters in pharma.
* Experience managing portfolios with complex products and leading multifunctional global teams.
* Business and financial acumen; ability to analyze and improve supply chain metrics.
* Skill in preparing cost-benefit analyses and presenting business cases to stakeholders.
* Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries through influence, negotiation, and partnership.
* Excellent English communication skills at all levels, including to senior leaders.
Other:
* Travel up to 10% domestically/internationally; based at IMSC sites in US (Titusville, Horsham, Raritan), Ireland (Cork), Switzerland (Zug), Belgium (Beerse).
