Offer Description The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.
The Forest Resources and Forest Management research unit collects and analyzes data on the Swiss forest to improve our understanding of its state and develop scientifically sound solutions for sustainable management. The Stand Dynamics and Silviculture group researches stand development with and without human interventions.
For the Forest Restoration and Climate Change in Armenia (FORACCA) project, we are looking for a Research Assistant (80% f/m/d) to support the project with silvicultural expertise and to develop recommendations for the management of forested areas and afforestation in Armenia in a changing climate.
To achieve this goal, you will:
Collect information on current silvicultural practices and ecosystem services.
Identify open questions, knowledge gaps, and existing problems.
Analyze the effects of climate change on forested areas and ecosystem services.
Assess the potential of possible measures to adapt to climate change.
Prepare documents for Armenian stakeholders and participate in local dissemination of findings and recommendations.
You have a graduate degree in forest or environmental sciences (at least MSc. level), very profound knowledge in climate adaptive forest management, good project management skills, and the willingness to carry out field and implementation work in Armenia at least twice. Proficiency in English (W+S) is essential for communication with international project partners. Additional languages such as German, Armenian, and/or Russian are advantageous, as is a Cat. B driving permit.
To be successful in this project, you must communicate very precisely, work independently, thoughtfully, and efficiently. A healthy ability to work in a team and a high degree of flexibility are also important.
Please send your complete application to Beatrice Lamprecht, Human Resources WSL, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered. Dr. Kathrin Streit, Technical staff member, Tel. +41 (0)44739 2437, will be happy to answer any questions or offer further information. WSL is committed to diversity and inclusion as core values.
