Job Title: Optical Engineer
As a senior optical engineer, you will play a key role in driving the development of cutting-edge optical sensing technologies from concept to production readiness.
You will be responsible for designing and specifying opto-mechanical assemblies and subassemblies, ensuring alignment with system-level requirements.
Selecting, characterizing, and testing optical components, and defining appropriate measurement and testing techniques are also critical aspects of this role.
Additionally, you will set up and perform advanced optical lab experiments and measurements, including complex system alignment and calibration.
Developing and applying modeling, simulations, and data analysis using tools like MATLAB or Python is another important responsibility.
Coordinate with suppliers and partners for the fabrication and integration of optical components and assemblies.
Generate and maintain comprehensive technical documentation: BOMs, mechanical drawings, programming files, etc.
Support the design and development of test tooling and carry out thorough validation and qualification testing.
Ensure compliance with internal development processes and contribute to certification activities when required.
Lead or support project planning and coordination, manage small technical teams or external partners, and monitor risks and reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in the development of complex optical systems – ideally in optical sensing and fiber-optics sensor applications.
* Expertise in optical simulation tools such as Ansys Zemax or Lumerical, and in modelling/coding tools like MATLAB and Python.
* Hands-on lab experience: prototyping of optical systems, component characterization, fiber-optic assembly and alignment techniques.
* Knowledge of MEMS/MOEMS design and micro-fabrication processes (clean room environment) is a strong plus.
* Experience in industrialization and production of optical systems is highly valued.
* Background in project engineering or project management, with familiarity with tools like MS Project, JIRA, or MS Planner.
* Previous experience in aerospace or other highly regulated industries is a plus.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; active listener and effective team collaborator.
* Autonomous, proactive, curious, and solutions-oriented mindset – you enjoy thinking outside the box.
* Fluent in English, with a very good command of French, both spoken and written.
