The Vector Biology Group is inviting applications for a
PhD Position in Medical Entomology (100%)
Our research group investigates the biology, surveillance and control of insect vectors of human pathogens. We are offering a PhD position to study the behaviour and ecology of the invasive Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, and to evaluate innovative, community-based control strategies – including large-scale adult mosquito trapping – in Basel, Switzerland, as part of a cluster-randomised controlled trial.
YOUR VARIOUS RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Plan and conduct field experiments on mosquito behaviour and ecology
Collect, manage and analyse entomological and environmental data
Contribute to the development and evaluation of community-based vector control strategies
Support the implementation of a cluster-randomised controlled trial
Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences
YOU SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS IN:
Master’s degree in biology, ecology, epidemiology, entomology or a related field
Strong interest in vector biology, applied entomology and public health
Experience with fieldwork and experimental design
Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
Quantitative skills and experience with statistical analysis (e.g. R) are an advantage
Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an asset
