Trade Finance Officer
Mechem SA is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Trade Finance Officer to support our base metals trading operations. This role is ideal for candidates with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills who are eager to build a career in international commodity trading.
Position Summary
You will play a key role in managing trade documentation, coordinating with banks, overseeing customer/vendor flows, and ensuring smooth execution of shipments and payments. The role works closely with our trading, operations, risk management, and logistics teams, contributing directly to the reliability and efficiency of our global activities.
Key Responsibilities
Manage trade finance documentation, including Letters of Credit, guarantees, collections, and discounting files.
Coordinate with banks regarding issuance, amendment, negotiation, and settlement of trade finance instruments.
Monitor payables, receivables, and customer/supplier balances; manage yearly balance reconciliations.
Manage the release process and collaborate with logistics teams on all shipment-related documentation.
Update and follow up with clients and internal teams regarding overdue balances and outstanding items.
Support and manage the preparation of daily trade finance reports for management.
Maintain clear audit trails and organized documentation archives according to internal and regulatory standards.
Conduct and manage KYC processes for the company, including communication with banks and counter‑parties.
Contribute to process improvements, workflow optimization, and data accuracy across trade operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
Strong communication skills – both internally across teams and externally with banks and counterparties.
Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational discipline.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced international trading environment.
Proficiency in English; French is an advantage.
Solid Excel skills; familiarity with ERP/trade systems is a plus.
Preferred (But Not Required)
Maximum 2 years of Trade Finance experience, ideally from a bank or trading company.
Experience with international trade instruments (LCs, guarantees, collections, Incoterms).
Exposure to commodity markets or interest in the physical trading sector.
Experience handling KYC, compliance, or due diligence processes.
Familiarity with SWIFT formats, trade documentation flows, or customs‑related paperwork.
