For an international company in the global agribusiness market in 4332 Stein (AG) we are looking for a HSE Biosafety Officer - temp. assignment (100%), min. 1 year
Responsibilities
he Biosafety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safe handling of biological agents and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) at the client's sites in accordance with Swiss legislation and international standards. Key result areas include:
* Development, implementation, and monitoring of biosafety concepts in compliance with Swiss legislation (ESV, SAMV, GTG)
* Ensuring compliance with Biosafety Level 1–4 standards across relevant facilities
* Risk assessment of biological agents and GMOs
* Acting as primary liaison with FOEN and cantonal enforcement authorities
* Preparation and submission of notifications and permit applications
* Conducting biosafety training programs for employees
* Performing biosafety inspections and audits
* Providing expert technical consulting to research and production teams.
Biosafety Management:
* Develop, implement, and continuously monitor biosafety concepts in accordance with Swiss legislation (ESV, SAMV, GTG), ensuring full site compliance
* Ensure effective compliance with Biosafety Level 1–4 standards across all applicable laboratory and production areas
* Independently conduct risk assessments of biological agents and GMOs, and define appropriate containment and control measures
Authority Contact:
* Effectively communicate with FOEN (Federal Office for the Environment) and cantonal enforcement authorities on all biosafety-related matters
* Accurately prepare and submit notifications and permit applications in a timely manner
* Ensure ongoing compliance with national and international regulations, independently monitoring regulatory changes and adapting procedures accordingly
Consulting, Training & Inspections:
* Effectively plan and conduct biosafety training sessions for all relevant employees
* Provide technically accurate and practical consulting to research and production teams
* Independently perform biosafety inspections and document findings with corrective action plans
* Serve as the primary expert advisor for all biosafety-related questions across the site
Key Tasks & Contributions:
* Establish and maintain a robust biosafety management system aligned with Swiss and EU regulations within the first 12 months
* Build trusted relationships with FOEN and cantonal authorities to facilitate smooth permit processes
* Design and deliver a comprehensive biosafety training curriculum for all relevant staff
* Complete a full biosafety inspection of all applicable laboratory and production areas and deliver actionable improvement reports
* Ensure all pending notifications and permit applications are current and compliant

Profile
Critical Knowledge
* In-depth knowledge of Swiss biosafety legislation: ESV (Einschliessungsverordnung), SAMV (Seuchenverordnung), and GTG (Gentechnikgesetz)
* Understanding of Biosafety Levels 1–4 requirements and containment strategies
* Familiarity with national and international regulatory frameworks governing biological agents and GMOs
* Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies for biological and GMO-related hazards
* Understanding of GMP/GLP environments is an advantage
* Completed university degree (MSc/PhD) in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a comparable scientific field
* Further training or certification in biosafety and/or biosecurity
* Several years of hands-on experience working with biological agents in a regulated environment
* Proven experience in regulatory affairs and direct communication with enforcement authorities

* Strong written and verbal communication skills in German and English; French is an advantage
