We are seeking a seasoned Head of Engineering to lead our dynamic Technology department, reporting directly to the CTO, Business Apps.
This senior-level role is responsible for overseeing teams of software engineers and providing strategic vision and direction for the software engineering organization. Collaborating with colleagues in London, the successful candidate will oversee the design and implementation of systems within our company, champion best practices, and ensure initiatives achieve business outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a strong software engineering background, architectural appreciation, and experience designing industry-leading solutions in trading and/or financial services environments. They should also have a proven track record of scaling software teams in fast-paced organizations, inspiring innovation, and adopting AI frameworks to build LLM-powered applications.
A key requirement for this position is the ability to interact effectively across IT and userbase teams, including front office/trading teams, and communicate seamlessly with C-level executives.
Main Responsibilities:
* Develop and execute an engineering strategy and roadmap aligned with business goals.
* Design internal platforms and services in line with architectural strategy.
* Lead, inspire, and develop high-performing software engineering teams.
* Evaluate and interpret requirements to maximize value.
* Pursue improvements and innovations, including leveraging GenAI.
* Represent and promote Mercuria's IT both internally and externally.
* Support firm-wide initiatives and strategy as required.
Technical Expertise:
* Strong core Java and/or Python knowledge and development expertise.
* Service-oriented technologies like REST, JSON, Protobuf, Spring Boot, Drop Wizard.
* DevOps best practices using tools like JIRA, JUnit, GitLab, Artifactory, Docker, Kubernetes, Kibana, Prometheus.
* Proven experience designing, deploying, and scaling AI solutions, including leveraging LLMs.
* Expertise in AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, or similar tools.
* Cloud exposure and understanding of its application in hybrid environments.
* Data experience integrating data lakes using platforms like Snowflake and/or Databricks.
* Event-based architecture experience utilizing technologies like Kafka, MSMQ.
* SQL and relational database expertise.
Nontechnical Skills:
* Background in commodities or financial services.
* Experience with Agile methodology for project delivery.
* Analytical and critical thinking with problem-solving abilities.
* Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure.
