Hexagon’s Mining division addresses surface and underground mining challenges with proven technologies for planning, operations, and safety. We are seeking a passionate Embedded Software Engineer to join our team developing next-generation safety solutions such as the Vehicle Intervention System (VIS) and Collision Avoidance System (CAS). You will deliver high-quality embedded software for intelligent mining systems and perception platforms, working in an agile environment with a strong focus on innovation, quality, and impact on customer safety and efficiency.
Junior Embedded Software Engineer (f/m/d)
20% onsite in Zug, 80% remote (80-100%).
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for our smart devices including SmartAntenna, Display5, SmartSwitch, and other Safety components
* Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and perception engineers to ensure alignment with business goals and customer needs
* Participate in architecture discussions, low-level design (LLD), and refinement processes to ensure robust and scalable solutions
* Investigate and resolve critical issues across firmware and hardware integration layers, including GNSS validation, logging protocols, and debug port handling
* Support release management and participate in sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives as part of our agile development cycle
* Maintain high standards of code quality through peer reviews, unit testing, test automation, and continuous integration practices
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
* Proficiency in C/C++
* Knowledge of communication protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232) and microcontroller platforms (ARM Cortex-M, STM32, etc.)
* Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Git, JIRA, and CI/CD pipelines
* Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively across disciplines
* Passion for building high-quality products with measurable impact
* Willingness to travel occasionally for customer mine visits or test deployments
Desirable
* Passion for clean code and best software development practices
* Familiarity with embedded operating systems such as FreeRTOS or NuttX
* Familiarity with embedded Linux development (Yocto, OpenWRT)
* 3+ years of experience in embedded software development
