Part‑time position: Thursdays 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Start date: August 12, 2025.
Job Summary WEST ABE is a consortium of educational sites within school districts and four county jails to help adults acquire basic skills. Monticello is the fiscal agent.
This position involves providing direct instruction to adults in the ABE/GED program at WeCAN in Mound, evenings from 6:00‑8:30 p.m. plus a ½‑hour prep; which evening and hours may be able to be changed. Up to 40 paid professional development hours are available annually.
Responsibilities Providing direct instruction to adult students working to improve their basic reading, math, digital skills and/or prepare for the official GED exam. The position also includes student assessment, returning student phone calls, monitoring student attendance, completing necessary student record keeping, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Valid MN teaching license.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy environment.
Ability to work as a team member.
Computer experience and comfort with Internet, email, and Google apps preferred.
Must be physically working in the building/onsite.
Previous experience teaching within an adult basic education program, providing online instruction, and working with diverse populations preferred.
Computer skills required, knowledge of MS Office/Google or comparable.
Strong leadership and time management skills required.
Effective decision‑making skills while acting within district policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
Maintain confidentiality of information about students, families, and staff.
Experience working with diverse students and families.
Starting hourly wage: $28.31 per hour. Start date: Training immediately after hire.
