Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated ward lead to join the team within our 24-bedded trauma ward (F3) as a secondment for 12 months/3 days

This ward is split into both male and female bays. There is a strong ethic on the ward of promoting patient safety, dignity and infection prevention. The ward specialises in Dementia Care, but also has a varied patient group across the trauma speciality. We are a forward thinking and dynamic team who all share a strong team ethos. We like to encourage innovative practice and education is positively supported.

* National and Local Major Trauma Centre
* Elective Orthopaedic Surgery
* Step Down to Rehab
* Fast Track Fracture Neck of Femur service
* Outpatients

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be pro-active in leading and developing the nursing team to ensure high quality, evidence based care. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to lead motivate and manage a team in an ever-changing environment. You will be an individual who demonstrates excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

Continued professional development, a strong commitment to developing others and sound decision-making skills is essential as is experience at a band 6 level in an acute surgical environment. You should be educated to degree level with supervisory and managerial experience and be willing to undertake relevant training to obtain an Orthopaedic qualification or module.

This is a challenging role that will see you deal with a wide range of conditions and treatments. You will find a real commitment to your training and development, with plenty of learning opportunities including a specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic course run in partnership with the University of Southampton.

Qualifications, Knowledge, And Experience
Essential criteria

* 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
* Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
* Degree or working towards
* Completion of appropriate specialty Course
* Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Supporting a range of learners in practice Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
* Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
* Evidence of clinical leadership ability
* Proven management experience
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
* Logical and consistent career pattern
* Expert clinical skills
* Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
* Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements

Desirable criteria

* Management Course (or equivalent)
* Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
* Evidence of staff development and succession planning
* Broad range of post registration experience
* Experience of report writing
