This includes the detailed design of the control system IO hardware for a multitude of advanced control systems integral to the project. The successful candidate will ensure the seamless integration and functionality of these systems in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide decisive technical leadership and direction to the dedicated I&C engineering design team to ensure the successful completion of the field instrumentation and IO hardware design scope. This encompasses:
The systematic design of communication interfaces for a variety of utility and process systems, including:
Clean Utility Package Units, utilizing OPC-UA protocols.
Black Utility Package Units and associated vendor skids, employing the Modbus TCP/IP protocol.
Process support apparatus, such as parts washers and autoclaves.
Compounding and Sterilization-in-Place/Clean-in-Place (SIP/CIP) systems, leveraging Ethernet, OPC-UA, and Modbus TCP/IP protocols.
The comprehensive design and installation of all I&C hardware, which includes:
The design, specification, selection, and procurement of field measuring and control instruments, including the generation of detailed instrument data sheets.
The design of field and control panel wiring for both conventional IO (e.g., 4-20mA) and bus-based systems, including Modbus TCP/IP, MP-Bus, and Ethernet IP protocols.
The design and procurement of control panels.
Oversee the creation and management of all design documentation deliverables, ensuring accuracy and completeness. These include:
Control schematics for all relevant devices, including field instrumentation, variable speed drives, and control/on-off valves.
Detailed field installation designs and layouts, specifying cable design and selection, cable tray routing, and the installation of control panels and pneumatic tubing.
The systematic assignment and allocation of device and signal information for the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
The generation and diligent maintenance of the IO index, which comprises all device and P&ID information.
Act as the primary liaison with internal Automation teams to coordinate IO allocation and the design of the various control system networks.
Coordinate the I&C design with external process and mechanical design firms to ensure a cohesive and integrated site-wide design.
Offer expert guidance and technical support to the Hot Loop Testing teams, including the generation and execution of comprehensive hot loop test protocols for the I&C design.
Candidate Profile
The following qualifications and experience are considered essential for this position:
A Bachelor’s degree or a recognized trade qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Chemical, Process Control, or a related field). Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable.
A minimum of 15 to 20 years of demonstrable experience in I&C design, with at least 10 years in a design management or leadership capacity.
A minimum of 10 years of hands-on design experience with Siemens S7 series of PLCs and DeltaV DCS. This must include extensive experience with OPC-UA, Ethernet, and Modbus TCP/IP communication protocols.
Proven proficiency in the use of COMOS and ePLAN, or comparable engineering design software.
Substantial experience within the Life Sciences or a related, highly regulated industry is a prerequisite.
