Trainee in Advanced Measurement Techniques for HTS magnets
The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. For the PSI Center for Accelerator Science and Engineering we are looking for a trainee to work on superconducting HTS magnets.
Your tasks
At PSI there is a growing interest in superconducting magnets built with High Temperature Superconductors (HTS). The need to characterize these magnets during dynamic operation is increasingly important. The goal of this internship is to design, test, and commission the numerical integration of measurement coil signals on an NI FPGA board, enabling real‑time field‑quality measurements and potential reuse of hardware for AC‑loss measurements.
* Get familiar with NI FPGA reconfigurable modules
* Design and develop NI LabVIEW FPGA code that meets measurement requirements
* Commission the FPGA application during field‑quality measurements of actual magnets
* Integrate the new hardware and software in the existing Rotating Coil measurement control application
Your profile
* Student in electrical/electronic engineering, at least in the ultimate year of undergraduate study (minimum 4 semesters)
* Clear understanding of FPGA technology
* Interest in numerical signal processing
* Has not yet completed Master’s thesis
We offer
The contract will be limited to 7 months. For further information, please contact Dr Giuseppe Montenero, phone +41 56 310 52 61.
Please submit your application online for the position as a Trainee (Index‑Nr. 8431‑28384).
