Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Thought Leadership: Provide thought partnership to senior leaders in GPS, Product Development and Research and Development to influence the development and execution of global commercial strategies across the value chain, from development through to commercialisation. Drive and influence therapeutic area (TA) business decisions and trade‑offs by integrating and analysing complex market dynamics, customer needs and competitive landscapes at the portfolio level, elevating insights across disease areas and brand strategies to optimise the portfolio and enhance patient outcomes. As a standing member of the Business Board, bring objectivity, consistency in methodology, deep market and customer understanding, and functional expertise to R&D investment decisions, accelerating the path to value.
* Build and Lead High‑Performance Teams: Lead and mentor a team of insights professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous development, recognition and growth mindset. Drive feedback, coaching and performance management practices. Attract and retain high‑quality talent. Champion the overall EI team vision and ensure the team are executing against their roles and responsibilities in service of achieving the vision and the overall Roche Pharma strategy. Develop systems and checks to ensure the team is consistently performing to the highest standard. Manage resource allocation within TA and partner as one team to ensure highest alignment with prioritisation across the entire portfolio.
* Drive Cutting‑Edge and Customer‑Centric Capabilities: Accelerate and catalyse the embedding of the voice of the customer (patients, healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders) in TA, disease area and commercialisation strategies. Drive a customer‑first mindset across the organisation by ensuring that insights shape the development and optimisation of Roche’s portfolio. Coach and mentor teams to utilise cutting‑edge technology, Gen AI, forecasting techniques, analytics and data sources (including but not limited to primary and secondary research, CRM data, real‑world evidence) to understand and predict market evolution, customer attitudes, needs and perceptions.
* Cross‑Functional Collaboration and Influence: Collaborate with other cross‑functional teams, such as R&D, product development, medical affairs and with critical must‑win markets, to set the insights foundations and capabilities for the development of integrated strategies and solutions that deliver value for patients and the healthcare ecosystem.
Required Skills and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree; Master’s or PhD degrees are preferred.
* 15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry with increasing responsibility and a proven track record in commercial insights and strategy roles.
* Outstanding VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach) leadership skills: proven track record in building high‑performing teams and ability to influence in a collaborative way within a cross‑functional environment.
* Demonstrated history in leading and managing change on a large scale.
* Excellent strategic thinker with a passion for customer insights, market dynamics, problem solving and innovation.
* Strong analytical and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex market and customer data into clear and actionable insights that influence business decisions at the portfolio and disease area levels. Expertise in developing forward‑looking strategies that anticipate market trends, customer needs and competitive dynamics.
* Solid experience in diverse insights generation methodologies in primary market research, CRM analytics, secondary data, real‑world evidence, forecasting and strategic decision support.
* Experience in using advanced analytics tools (e.g., AI, machine learning, predictive modelling) to generate actionable insights that drive impact.
* Extensive experience in supporting the development and implementation of commercialisation strategies and product life‑cycle planning and management.
* Strong communication, listening, presentation and interpersonal skills.
* Proven abilities to lead, collaborate and deliver in a complex and matrix environment, across multiple priorities and stakeholders, forming strong partnerships.
* Excellent judgement with a demonstrated ability to diagnose issues, manage conflict and provide alternative solutions.
* Demonstrated experience and excellence in people management, coaching and mentoring.
* Fluent written and verbal English.
Location
* This position is based in South San Francisco and relocation benefits are available for US candidates.
* This role can also be based in Basel, Switzerland and relocation is available.
Salary
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $221,300 - $410,900 USD per annum. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed below.
