Part‑time job: Solar electric motorcycle mechanics
Engineering/ Mechanics/ CAD/ Welding/ Renewable Energy and mobility/ East‑Africa
E.Ride GmbH is a young startup developing battery packs and electric motorcycles for emerging economies (East Africa). We need support on a part time basis one day per week or subject to availability/interest for someone to join our Zürich team of 4 and work on the metal part/mechanics/frame/cables etc. for our electric motorcycle prototype at our space near Hardbrücke.
We are looking for:
* Young ongoing mechanical engineer (female/ male) (ZHAW/ ETH/ Polymech, Lehre etc.)
* Hands‑on!!! This is a assembly, welding, soldering, construction, 3D printing – You will get your hands dirty.
* Organized: Can plan tasks, procure, sort and store necessary material, make testing campaign. Allocate your time if at an education program etc.
* Self‑driven: You need to schedule your work and tasks independently: minimal supervision so you really need to get out of bed by yourself and work towards results.
* Location: We have a shared office space in the ZWZ near Hardbrücke in Zürich.
* English or German speaking;
* Teamplayer: We can offer to work in our Zambia office for a few months if interest is there.
Skills:
* Good understanding of mechanics
* Hands‑on experience in CAD (you have worked with these techniques before, we work with Fusion 360 but design experience in other CAD software is ok as long as you can use these skills)
* Sheet metal work – Required: welding (MIG), drilling, bending, assembly. Beneficiary: CNC plasma cutting
* FDM 3D printing/modelling (Bambulab / Prusa)
* Basic understanding of electronics/electricity/batteries and if possible some experience with soldering
* Optional: Basic motorcycle maintenance e.g. tensioning a chain, changing brakes, etc.
Motivation and commitment
Motivation and willingness to learn is more important than experience, also the ability to independently try and fail and try further to achieve applicable results would be the right mindset. Most important for us is the commitment to work one or two days per week in the office, the ability to hands‑on work, a very strong 80/20 – lets.get.things.done attitude – we are looking for someone that would stay 6‑12 months or longer, safety awareness: You are responsible for your safety.
