Please read on… As part of the Global Drug Development (GDD) team, you will join the Biocatalysis Team in Chemical & Analytical Development (CHAD) to unlock the next breakthroughs by enzyme evolution. As a highly motivated analytical lab technician, you will support and expand the development of biocatalytic processes across Novartis. Our success will have a direct impact on the sustainability of the future production processes of Novartis. The position is a perfect opportunity for you as an enthusiastic scientist to apply your own expertise in an exciting and innovative pharmaceutical environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Conducting high throughput routine analytics for a variety of compound classes with a focus on small molecules (oligonucleotides and proteins occasionally) using LC-UV, LC-MS, SFC-UV, SFC-MS, GC-FID, GC-MS and RapidFire-MS
* Interpretation of analytical data, if needed using statistical tools
* Documentation of analytical raw data utilizing dedicated LIMS system to track samples and related analyses
* Development of analytical methods for LC-UV, LC-MS, SFC-UV, SFC-MS, GC-FID, GC-MS and RapidFire-MS analysis
* Maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
* Assistance for the development and execution of assays to support enzyme screenings in high-throughput (HTP) format
Essential Requirements
* Lab technician or BSc/MSc level in analytical chemistry, ideally with at least 4 years of relevant experience
* Strong general analytical background and familiarity with standard analytical techniques; experience with small molecule detection
* Solid hands‑on experience with analytical instrumentation and excellent understanding of analytical separation, detection and measurement concepts
* Comfortable with multi‑tasking of repetitive routine operations
* Strong organizational and documentation competence (e.g. record keeping, lab notebook, reports)
* Ready to work in an international and multidisciplinary team
* Open‑minded personality and “can do” attitude
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Good communication skills in English (oral and written)
Desirable Requirements
* Experience with small molecule detection by LC-MS and GC-MS
* Knowledge of triple quadrupole mass spectrometry
* Familiar with analytical software, e.g. MassHunter or Chromeleon
Workload: 100% (40 hours per week)
