At EPFL, philanthropy plays a pivotal role in advancing world‑class research, education, and innovation. As we grow our development team, we are seeking a seasoned Team Lead Senior Fundraiser for new business development and donor outreach who will play a central role in expanding our network of philanthropic partners and driving transformational philanthropy at EPFL. This role will lead pipeline growth, cultivate philanthropic relationships, and guide a high‑performing team, while also serving as a key partner to EPFL’s senior leadership in major gift outreach and solicitation. Supported by colleagues in prospect research, stewardship, communications, and by strategic insights from internal stakeholders engaged in donor outreach efforts, you will focus on building new philanthropic partnerships, renewing existing major gifts, helping to secure further support, and shaping the future of philanthropy at EPFL.
Mission and main duties:
Co-Develop and Execute Fundraising Strategies
Collaborate with the Advancement Communication & Engagement Manager, the Director of Philanthropy, and other key internal stakeholders to design fundraising strategies, and take the lead in their execution.
Business Development & Pipeline Growth
Drive new philanthropic partnerships by leveraging prospect research, segmentation insights, and strategic guidance provided by internal donor outreach stakeholders. Support the building of a portfolio of new prospects while supporting Philanthropy Managers in strengthening and expanding their assigned portfolios. Identifying opportunities for increased engagement and giving across the donor base.
Cultivate, Renew, and Solicit Major Gifts (in Collaboration)
Work closely with EPFL senior leadership and internal stakeholders involved in donor outreach to lead cultivation, solicitation, and closing of major gifts. Collaborate with Philanthropy Managers on joint strategies, ensuring they are entrusted with and empowered to advance their own portfolios.
Proposal Development
Co-Develop and contribute to compelling proposals and presentations material in collaboration with team members and internal stakeholders.
Major Gifts Solicitation
Co-solicit or support the solicitation from leadership and closing of major gifts.
Negotiation and Gift Agreements
Oversee and support the contractual and negotiation process to ensure proper documentation and institutional compliance.
Stewardship and Donor Recognition
In collaboration with the Advancement Communication and Donor Engagement Manager Lead, ensure that the team actively participates in stewardship through meaningful donor follow‑up, impact communication, and relationship management. Support the consistent delivery of stewardship activities coordinated centrally by the Advancement Communication and Donor Engagement Manager Lead.
Input and Maintain CRM Data
Ensure all donor and prospect information is accurately entered and updated in the CRM system, including contact details, meeting notes, donation history, and future actions.
Events and Engagement
Collaborate on the planning and execution of high‑level donor engagement events, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals and donor cultivation strategies.
Monitoring
Use CRM tools to track progress, engagement, and pipeline development. Work closely with Advancement communication and engagement manager to identify trends, and inform future fundraising strategies.
Reporting
Generate regular reports on fundraising progress, donor engagement, and pipeline activity. Provide updates to leadership on key metrics, trends, and major prospect developments.
Team Leadership and development
Manage and mentor a team comprising of Philanthropy Managers, a Senior Liaison Coordinator, and a Junior Philanthropy Officer. Focus on developing their skills, fostering collaboration, and supporting their management of individual portfolios and stewardship responsibilities.
Mentorship
Provide mentorship and guidance to team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
Representation
Represent the philanthropy team in leadership settings when required.
Perform other duties as required by the Director of Philanthropy and/or senior leadership, contributing to the overall success of the organization’s philanthropic fundraising activities.
