Middle School ELA Targeted Services Summer School Teacher (Multiple Positions)

Hours: 8:30 am - 1:15 pm

Location: Cottage Grove Middle School

Wage Information: $37 per hour

Assignment Information: Program dates and times are July 6 - July 30, Monday - Thursday, 9:00am - 1:00pm. The daily schedule for this position is 8:30am - 1:15pm. The program site is Cottage Grove Middle School. Summer School planning and teacher professional development will occur on June 10th and June 25th.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide instruction and guidance for students attending Middle School Targeted Services Summer School.


PROGRAM INFORMATION

Each day students will participate in a morning check and connect session, lunch, and three structured class periods: math, ELA, and an elective. Check and connect, ELA, and elective content will be planned around a common theme. Teachers will lead check and connect sessions and teach one content area. Teachers will be assigned to a team, either sixth grade, seventh grade, or eighth grade. The staffing ratio will be 20:1.

Every student will have access to a mobile device.


PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

* Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, investigate, and communicate.
* Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
* Incorporate SEL curriculum and AVID strategies into daily check and connect sessions and ELA instruction.
* Develop and teach ELA content related to the program theme and in collaboration with team members.
* Design and implement strategies that encourage students to read independently and share their reflections about books with others.
* Utilize Schoology as a platform for student learning and family engagement.
* Create a positive environment to ensure successful learning for all students.
* Communicate with families to share information about program content and student progress.
* Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, site coordinators, and extended learning coordinator in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic concerns.
* Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
* Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic issues or special academic interests.
* Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families and staff.
* Supervise students during transitions between classes/activities, arrival, and dismissal.
* Other duties as assigned


JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)


Required

* Current Minnesota Teaching License in Communication Arts and Literature, Reading, English as a Second Language, Special Education, and/or Library Media Specialist.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrated creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm to support students through innovative instruction.
* Demonstrated collaboration and relationship‑building skills.
* Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
* Communicates with students, parents, co‑workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
* Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
