Research Assistant Position – Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry
Project Title: Artificial Intelligence for Human Motion Processing and Analysis from Video in Schizophrenia
Duration: 1 year (80%–100% position)
Start date: As soon as possible
Project summary
Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric illness associated with negative symptoms such as apathy and diminished emotional expression. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) at Geneva University Hospital is currently evaluating the efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to alleviate these symptoms. In parallel, this project aims to objectively quantify motion- and expression-related correlates of schizophrenia using video-based analysis from videos acquired in this RCT.
Funded by the Fondation Privée des HUG and the Leenaards Foundation, this is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Translational Machine Learning Lab (PI: Jonas Richiardi, CHUV), and Neuroimaging and Translational Psychiatry (PI: Indrit Bègue, University of Geneva, University Hospitals of Geneva)
Aim of the project
To extract facial and body landmarks from structured video data (short interviews, walking tests, arm drop tests) and perform preliminary modelling using modern machine learning techniques.
Responsibilities
·Curate and organize longitudinal video datasets
·Preprocess video data for analysis
·Implement pose and motion estimation using existing software
·Assess and improve detection quality; annotate as needed
·Engineer relevant motion and expression features
·Develop statistical and graph-based models
Profile
·Background in computer vision and/or image processing (preferred)
·Ideal for candidates that have just finished a master in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science or Artificial Intelligence.
What We Offer
·Hands-on experience in cutting-edge computer vision and machine learning
·Application of AI in real-world clinical research
·Exposure to interdisciplinary work across psychiatry, neuroscience, and machine learning
·A potential stepping stone toward academic or industry roles in AI-driven healthcare
How to apply
Please send a CV (max. 2 pages), a motivation letter, and names/contact details of three references in a single file with an email titled “Artificial intelligence in psychiatry research position” to : Dr. Jonas Richiardi (jonas.richiardi@chuv.ch) and Prof. Indrit Bègue (indrit.begue@unige.ch)
